"You Are Gifted"

St. James Women’s Retreat

March 21, 2020

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Did you know that God has gifted YOU?  God speaks to all people and gives each one of us spiritual gifts – and yet these gifts are not all the same.  We are organizers, prayers, writers, teachers, healers, artists, welcomers, discerners. . .   We’re made to fit together like puzzle pieces, as we name, affirm and nurture our spiritual gifts and ministries.  This fitting together is at the heart of what it means to be God’s Beloved people, a people called in the waters of Baptism to care for one another.

In this year’s women’s retreat, “You Are Gifted,” we will discover our unique spiritual gifts and discover how we are each empowered by God to use those gifts to serve others, making a difference in our world.

You are asked to bring an object which reflects a way God has gifted you to touch the lives of others.

We welcome back Rev. Kris Peterson as our facilitator.  Pastor Peterson is a graduate of the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, and was ordained in 1989.  In 2006 she received a Master of Science degree from Neumann University in Pastoral Care and Counseling with a concentration in spiritual direction.  As a spiritual director Pastor Peterson companions others on their spiritual journey as they discern and respond to the presence of God in their everyday lives. In 2010 she earned a Doctorate of Ministry from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia (now United Seminary).

We will gather at 9:00 am for coffee and fellowship in Platts Hall.  The retreat begins at 9:30 am and ends with Holy Eucharist at 3:00 pm.  Cost for the retreat is $15.00.
